According to his wife, ex-Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was transported to the hospital after complaining of stomach ache.
It comes after thousands of his backers assaulted government buildings in Brazil’s capital the day before.
According to rumors, Mr. Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital in the Orlando area on Monday.
The ex-president was stabbed in 2018 and has since experienced intermittent stomach pain as a result.
Michelle Bolsonaro revealed on Instagram on Monday that her husband was hospitalized with stomach pain and was undergoing observation, but his condition is “not alarming,” a family friend told Reuters. Brazil’s O Globo newspaper was the first to break the story.
Approximately 10 days ago, Mr. Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States as he ignored last week’s handover of authority to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Issues with Visas
President Joe Biden of the United States is under pressure from other Democrats to remove Mr. Bolsonaro from office.
Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro told CNN that Bolsonaro should not visit Florida. “This authoritarian who has incited domestic terrorism in Brazil has no place in the United States, and his proper disposition is a return to Brazil.”
Another Democratic lawmaker, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, tweeted that the United States should “stop offering sanctuary to Bolsonaro in Florida.”
On Monday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that the United States had received “no official request” from the Brazilian government regarding Mr. Bolsonaro’s visa.
In September of 2018, Mr. Bolsonaro was attacked at a campaign rally in the state of Minas Gerais. In the fall of that year, he was elected president.
After a contentious campaign, he narrowly lost October’s re-election to Lula, the country’s former president.
